Mother A Journey from Creation to Destiny

Of all the colors in the universe, the most beautiful, deep, and indelible is the color of a mother’s love. This is a truth that words can never fully capture. If we look closely at the journey of our lives, we realize that our existence didn't just begin in the bright room of a hospital; it started much earlier, in that dark and serene corner of a mother’s being where the greatest miracle of human creation unfolds. From a psychological perspective, the bond between a mother and child is not merely limited to blood circulation or genetics; it is the solid foundation upon which the entire edifice of a person's personality, confidence, and character is built.

Psychologists believe that a child begins to see and understand this vast world not through their own eyes, but through the eyes of their mother. When they receive protection, selfless love, and the warmth of touch in their mother's lap, it becomes etched in their subconscious that this world is a safe place. This very feeling helps them emerge as a confident and balanced human being in the future. The voice a child hears within the womb and the first touch they receive upon entering the world essentially sow those seeds of love, trust, and empathy in their brain cells—a harvest they continue to reap throughout their entire life.

However, with the relentless passage of time, a strange and painful change is often witnessed in this sincere and pure relationship. The child who once forgot all the sorrows of the world by clinging to their mother's veil, and whose entire universe was her lap, often begins to run away from that very shadow as they step onto the threshold of youth, searching for independence, ego, and individuality. In psychological terms, this is called the process of "Separation," where the child begins to perceive a mother's concern, her guidance, and her maternal affection as a restriction or an obstacle. From here begins that unfortunate phase of behavioral change which sometimes turns into bitterness, sometimes indifference, and sometimes a silent distance. Intoxicated by their own successes, humans often forget that behind their high flight lies the sacrifice of those nights spent by someone who stayed awake singing lullabies and trembling at their every sneeze.

The Holy Quran has described this human nature and the greatness of a mother in a most effective and comprehensive manner. In Surah Luqman, Allah Almighty’s command—"We have enjoined upon man concerning his parents: his mother bore him in weakness upon weakness"—reminds us of a time that is not even preserved in the blurred corners of our memory. Those nine months of hardship, the difficulty in breathing, the existence connected by a feeding tube, and then the grueling two-year period of weaning; this is a debt that a human can never repay, even if they wished to. This is why the Creator of the Universe, where He commanded His worship, also declared kind treatment of parents as a mandatory duty. That verse of Surah Bani Israel is enough to shake the soul, where Allah says that if one or both of them reach old age, do not even say "Uff" (a sigh of frustration) to them. Psychologically, saying "Uff" is the smallest and most ordinary sign of boredom, annoyance, or irritation—and Allah has forbidden even this minor expression of resentment, clarifying the delicacy and sanctity of this relationship, where even a single word from your tongue can wound their heart.

In today's materialistic and artificial age, where we are preoccupied with the outward glitz of the digital world and the "likes" of social media, we often forget to look at our mother's worn-out veil and the wrinkles on her face that developed while she was busy grooming our lives. A famous and moral story jolts us:

a son was ashamed of his mother because she had only one eye, and he avoided bringing her into his social circles, fearing what people would say. But after his mother's death, he found a letter that pierced his soul; it read, "My son! When you were very young, you lost an eye in an accident, and I couldn't bear to see you incomplete, so I gave my eye to you so that you could see the world with full light." This story is not just an incident but a reflection of a mother’s sacrifice that begins when we don't even know how to spell the word "sacrifice."

The renowned writer Bano Qudsia pointed toward a very deep and frightening reality: if your mother starts fearing to talk to you because of your anger or the sharpness of your tone, then understand that you have closed the door of your own salvation with your own hands. When a child's voice rises above their mother's, the psychological impact doesn't just fall on broken relationships; it becomes a burden on the human conscience that never allows one to live in peace. Remember, if there is a living reflection of God’s attribute of Mercy (Rahimi) in this universe, it is the mother—and a mother's prayer is a weapon that has the power to change even the decrees of destiny. The sands of time are slipping very quickly through our hands. If today you have that being who would sacrifice herself a hundred times over for your smallest pain, then cherish the fragrance of her existence and make the dust of her feet the kohl of your eyes.

Because when this shadow is lifted, there is no place to hide from the scorching heat, and the silence of graveyards never returns those maternal voices that once used to recite your name like a prayer in the courtyard of your home. May Allah give us all the strength to value our mothers and to gather their prayers while they are alive. Ameen.
